There's kind of an interesting story behind this comic. Y'see, I came up with idea a while ago, about the same time I was working on the forever-on-haitus "One Year" book. I had originally envisioned it as a movie, since David had been looking for ideas for his senior project in video/film. But I never developed it beyond a concept, and I never had an ending to it. Then I heard that the SPX anthology for 2004 was going to have war as the theme, so sat down and worked up this story. It was originally going to be longer and have more characters, but in it's current form I think it works as a short story. When I first started working on, I mentioned it in one of my semi-monthly Grab Bag Comics e-mail newsletters. Now I don't know exactly how much influence my story had, but not too much later my best friend Dave (different guy than the above-mentioned David), who works at a desk job in the DOD, made plans to go to Iraq as part of a civilian contractor team. He said that, like my in story, he had to see what the news was telling him for real, to cut through all the spin, and to see if he could really make a difference. While he was over there, this story was published in the SPX 04 Anthology. Thankfully, he made it back safely.
